Nicki Minaj took to Twitter today to confirm that rumors that she and rapper Meek Mill have broken up.

NICKI MINAJ CONFIRMS BREAK UP WITH MEEK MILL

“To confirm, yes I am single,” Minaj said in her post. “Focusing on my work & looking forward to sharing it with you guys really soon. Have a blessed New Year. Love u.”

Minaj, 34, and Mill, 29, began dating early in 2015, and tried their best to stay out of the public eye. In April, 2015, Mill said in an interview that their romance was “definitely real…but it ain’t really time to get married yet.”

When on The Ellen Show in spring 2016, Minaj told Ellen DeGeneres that she was single, even though it was known she wasn’t. “I don’t even want to say that I’m in a relationship anymore because I think when people hear that they go to like a mean place,” the artist explained. “You know, I used to be secretive…I used to say, ‘I’m not in a relationship,’ even though I was in a 12-year relationship [with rapper Safaree Samuels]. Now I feel like just going back to that and saying, ‘You know what? I’m single.'”

The pair has been through the ringer of the rumor mill, with gossip spreading that they were engaged or that Minaj was pregnant, but the couple always took it in stride, making jokes. “No matter wut he, or anyone else says, Onika Tanya Maraj won’t b pushing anyone1 out her vajayjay, until she’s married,” Minaj tweeted following the pregnancy rumor. “Now check that.”

In late 2016, Minaj spoke to Marie Claire for an interview, and gave some insight into a modern relationship. “Nowadays, I feel like [young women] see marrying into money—I think that’s a big thing now. I don’t want that to be a woman’s goal in life,” the rapper said. “I want your goal in life to be to become an entrepreneur, a rich woman, a career-driven woman… You have to be able to know that you need no man on this planet at all, period. He should feel that, because when a man feels that you need him, he acts differently.”

At least we know Minaj is a strong woman who can handle herself following this break up. Mill has yet to comment.
