Misty Copeland married her boyfriend of ten years, Olu Evans, on Sunday.

The wedding was held in Laguna Beach, California, with a small, intimate ceremony of about 100 guests, according to E! News.

The couple were introduced in 2004 by Evans’ cousin and actor, Taye Diggs. In an interview with Soledad O’Brien, Copeland expressed the strength and support of their relationship. “I always said, ‘No man is coming in and taking me away from ballet.’ And that was so important to me that the person I ended up with was going to support me in every way, because my career is so important to me.”

In 2015, Copeland became the first African-American woman to be named principal ballerina by the American Ballet Theatre. Since then, she has quickly risen to pop icon status, appearing in various reality television shows and commercials.

While the couple plans on having children, Copeland told The Daily Telegraph they have to plan out their time spent together months in advance. “I’m trying to think about timings of that with my boyfriend. I’m very regimented and organized – he understands that. And there will be plenty of time after I retire.”
