‘American Idol’ Recap, Season 15, Ep. 15, Judges Pick: Dalton Rapattoni And Olivia Rox In Top 10
4/5
American Idol is on to its live episodes which will continue Thursday night with audiences picking their favorites. But before the audience’s choices are revealed tonight, four contestants got sent directly to the Top 10 when the judges, Harry Connick, Jr., Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban, got to pick their favorites.
The judges picks were Dalton Rapattoni, Olivia Rox, Trent Harmon and La’Porsha Renae. These four did not have to perform for the six remaining spots in the top 10.
Singing last night were Idol hopefuls, Jenn Blosil, Manny Torres, Gianna Isabella, Thomas Stringfellow, Tristan McIntosh, Avalon Young, Lee Jean, Sonika Vaid, Jeneve Rose Mitchell and MacKenzie Bourg.
Jenn was able to remember the lyrics to her rendition of “True Colors” and Harry throughly enjoyed the performance while Gianna fell short impressing the audience with her cover of “I Put a Spell on You.”
Manny was able to do what he’s does best and use the entire stage to capture the audience’s attention. He was able to cover the legendary Stevie Wonder song, “Master Blaster” with ease.
Thomas decided to cover One Direction’s hit song, “Story of My Life” but was advised by Connick that he needed to work on his voice break at the end of his songs. Tristan was also another artist who needs to work on her song choice considering she picked, Rascal Flatts’ “What Hurts the Most.” Judges warned her that the song was out of her vocal range which caused her to yell instead of sing.
Avalon was able to almost perfect her cover of Chris Brown‘s “Yo (Excuse Me Miss)” and switched up the pronouns to make it fit her. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for Lee’s almost forgettable cover of Ed Sheeran‘s “Make It Rain.”
Sonika took on Celine Dion‘s “I Surrender” but didn’t nail the high notes as her voice was shaky towards the end. Jeneve also took on a too challenging cover of Johnny Cash’s “Ring Of Fire” failing to make it her own.
Mackenzie decided to take a different route and sing an original entitled “Roses.” Not only was he able to execute the song but he stood apart from his fellow cast mates as he shined in his originality.
Tune into FOX tonight where the results from the audiences will be revealed for the top 10 spots and special guest Kelly Clarkson will grace the stage.
