Comedian Bob Elliott, who was best known for being one half of the comedy duo on The Bob and Ray Show, has died. He was 92.
Bob Elliott Dies
Elliott passed away at his home in Maine after a battle with throat cancer, his son, actor and comedian Chris Elliott, confirmed to The New York Times.
Bob and Ray Goulding first found their way onto radio with their comedy show on a local Boston station. Eventually, they moved their way up to NBC radio before heading to television in the early 1950s. Their act, which saw them trade off on the role of the “straight man,” also got them onto The Tonight Show and The Ed Sullivan Show.
When Goulding passed away in 1990, Elliott surprised fans by continuing to perform. He became a cast member of the American Radio Company of the Air and twice acted alongside his son Chris. After his career expanded to TV and movies, Elliott admitted that he’d never dreamt of such opportunities.
“Ray and I both grew up with radio,” Elliott once said, according to the Times. “Our whole hopes for the future were that we’d get into radio.”
Elliott is survived by Chris and four other children, 11 grandchildren – including actresses Abby Elliott and Bridey Lee Elliott, and five great-grandchildren.
