Zayn Malik Drops Debut Solo Single “Pillow Talk” & Music Video With Girlfriend Gigi Hadid

Zayn Malik has released “Pillow Talk,” the lead single off his debut album Mind of Mine, and simultaneously dropped a music video starring his new girlfriend Gigi Hadid.

Malik’s first track as a solo artist is certainly a departure from the music he was making with One Direction. “Pillow Talk” not only has a more R&B feel, but the lyrics are far more explicit in terms of talking about sex than those tailored for 1D’s tween fanbase, proving that Malik is eager for a new sound and image.

“We’ll go slow and high-tempo/Light and dark/ Hold me hard and mellow…,” Malik starts of the song. “I’m seeing the pain (seeing the pleasure)/Nobody but you, ‘body but me, ‘body but us/Bodies together.”

He sings later on in the song, “So we’ll piss off the neighbors/ In the place that feels the tears/The place to lose your fears/Yeah, reckless behavior/A place that is so pure, so dirty and raw/Be in the bed all day, bed all day, bed all day/F–king you, and fighting on.”

In the music video that Malik released for the song, he stars opposite model of the moment Hadid, who he began dating last year after his split from Perrie Edwards. Throughout the video, Malik and Hadid kiss passionately and have their hands all over each other.

Leading up to the release of the song and video, Malik opened up about leaving One Direction after five years with the band. As it turns out, the singer had wanted out for awhile.

“I think I always kind of wanted to go, from the first year, really. I never really wanted to be there in the band, I just gave it a go because it was there at the time,” Malik told Zane Lowe. “I think the boys kind of knew, that in terms of the music, that wasn’t my cup of tea. They knew that, they were aware of that, always.”

Malik, who could see himself collaborating with other artists down the line – potentially even Justin Bieber – is happy right now just to be making music that is his own. “I just want to make music that I believe in and music that I stand for,” Malik told Capital FM.
