China’s Yuntai Mountain Glass Walkway Cracks

A new trend has been growing in China in order to attract tourists. Long glass walkways have been constructed on different mountains that are suspended hundreds and occasionally even thousands of feet in the air. They have been ruled safe since the glass is measured at three-quarters of an inch thick and can withstand bending. But one mountain’s glass walkway is already causing alarm.

Yuntai Mountain, which is located in Jiaozuo, China, has a glass walkway that is suspended about 3,500 feet in the air and a huge crack has developed on one of the panels. “I was almost at the end and suddenly I heard a sound,” said one tourist. “My foot shook a little. I looked down and I saw that there was a crack in the floor.”

According to China’s People’s Daily Online, the glass crack was caused by the dropping of a stainless steel mug. Chinese officials have taken precautionary measures into effect to ensure the safety of these tourists and say they will eventually replace the cracked glass.
