James Franco To Teach A High-School Film Class
James Franco will be teaching a film class at Palo Alto High School in California that will start on Sept. 13 and continue into the Spring semester.
JAMES FRANCO TEACHES FILM CLASS
Franco always seems to be busy with multiple projects. Not only is he an actor, but he is also a filmmaker (producer and director), a writer and a teacher. He has formerly taught a class on poetry-to-film adaptation at NYU. Now, he is set to teach a film class at Palo Alto High School.
The actor has an extensive educational background, and has studied both creative writing and filmmaking, among other things. Franco has earned several degrees, including M.F.A.s in writing from Columbia University and Brooklyn College, an M.F.A. in film from Tisch and a Ph.D. in English from Yale.
In order to apply for Franco’s course, students must write a 200-word essay explaining why they wish to take the workshop, and what they feel they can bring to the table. They must also submit a one-minute video introducing themselves, which will then be posted on YouTube. Only 24 students will be able to join the course, and at the end of this year there may be an opportunity for them to show their work at a film festival.
Applications for the class are due Thursday, Sept. 10.
