Avril Lavigne joined Taylor Swift on stage to sing her hit “Complicated” at the San Diego stop of Swift’s 1989 Tour on Saturday.

Avril Lavigne And Taylor Swift Sing “Complicated”

Lavigne, who has been keeping a low profile since she was diagnosed with Lyme disease, surprised fans on Saturday, Aug. 29, by appearing alongside Swift to sing her early 2002 hit. “Thank you Taylor for having me up on stage and thank you San Diego,” Lavigne wrote on Instagram following the performance.

The duet comes after the two pop stars butt heads on social media earlier this week. Swift, who is known for her social media presence, liked a post on Tumblr that compared how Swift poses with fans at meet-and-greets — with a lot of enthusiasm and affection — to how other celebrities, like Katy Perry and Britney Spears, pose with fans — keeping a safe and sometimes awkward distance. One such celeb was Lavigne, who was shown smiling alongside a fan, but not showing any sort of affection.

Lavigne saw the post and defended herself on Twitter, writing, “Comparison is judging and judging a person does not define who they are it defines who you are. We all Love our fans.”

Though Lavigne did not call out Swift directly, it seems the post got Swift’s attention. At her performance in San Diego, Swift revealed that the two had been “texting all week” leading up to the performance. “She’s so sweet, which I love, when I find out that one of my favorite artists is also super amazing as a person,” Swift told the crowd.
