Did Rosie Perez Quit ‘The View’ Early Over Kelly Osbourne’s Gaffe About Latinos?
Rosie Perez was still on The View panel when guest co-host Kelly Osbourne made an ill-advised remark regarding Latinos, leading some to speculate that her exit soon after was earlier than had originally been planned.
Rosie Perez Quits ‘The View’
Rumors have started swirling that Perez quit The View prematurely because producers forced her to apologize to Osbourne for taking her to task for her controversial comment.
Osbourne had been trying to make a point about Donald Trump, when she said, “If you kick every Latino out of this country, then who is going to be cleaning your toilet, Donald Trump?” When she realized that her fellow co-hosts weren’t on board with her statement, Osbourne’s confidence was replaced with uncertainty. “You know what I mean?” she asked.
Perez quickly voiced her displeasure with Osbourne and her comment, telling her, “There’s more jobs than that in the country for Latinos, and Latinos are not the only people who clean toilets.”
Backstage, Osbourne apparently broke down in tears, profusely apologizing for her remark, explaining that she had not meant what the statement implied. At the end of the episode of The View, Perez came to Osbourne’s defense, saying, “I want to apologize to this young woman once again for being overly sensitive…Kelly Osbourne is on our side, and I was sensitive. My disdain should only go to Donald Trump, so I’m sorry, darling.”
Though recent reports claim that Perez was forced into the apology, other insiders are saying that’s not the case.
“Laughably false,” a source tells E! News of the report. “Rosie’s days off were scheduled the day before Kelly was a guest on The View. What she said at the end of the show and what she tweeted to Kelly were entirely genuine. No one made her do anything. And she and Kelly spoke after the show.”
