Teletubbies Reboot To Air On Nick Jr In 2016
Work on the Teletubbies reboot is now in full swing as Canadian media company, DHX Media, announced Thursday that Nickelodeon picked up the series and on-demand rights to air new episodes on Nick Jr. in 2016.
Nickelodeon received the rights for the original episodes of the show to stream on the network’s new Noggin mobile subscription service targeted for preschoolers.
Anne Wood, one of the creators of the original series, will not return for the reboot. In February, she told Britain’s RadioTimes that she sold Teletubbies to raise money to develop new children’s shows. “So good luck to them. They bought it and I can’t do anything about that,” she said.
It remains unclear whether original Teletubbies voice actors will return, but Tinky Winky, Dipsy Laa-laa and Po will be joined by new friends. Veteran British actor Jim Broadbent, known for playing Horace Slughorn in the Harry Potter movies, will voice a talking trumpet, while actress Jane Horrocks will play a “Tubby Phone.”
The Teletubbies aired for four seasons filming 365 episodes in its original run.
