Three children were injured after a waterspout swept a bounce house into the air on Fort Lauderdale Beach, Fla., on Monday.

Bounce House Flies In Fort Lauderdale Beach

Florida residents gathered at Fort Lauderdale Beach Park for a Memorial Day event, featuring bounce houses and other fun activities, when the waterspout hit. A waterspout is, essentially, a tornado that forms over water, and video shows the waterspout moving up the coastline along the water before crossing over onto the shore and heading straight for the bounce houses, knocking one over and sending the other one flying through the air.

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department confirmed that three children were injured and taken to the hospital. Two were released after being treated for minor fractures and one was held overnight.

Other reports suggest one adult was also injured, though the extents of the injuries are unknown. The children were reportedly injured from falling out of the bounce house before it was lifted very high in the air. Authorities have said that the incident was unavoidable, and that the bounce house had been properly secured and all permits were in order prior to the event.
