Joni Mitchell could be leaving the hospital soon, as her condition has steadily improved since her hospitalization over a month ago.

Joni Mitchell’s Health

Attorney Alan Watenmaker, who is representing Mitchell’s longtime friend Leslie Morris in her efforts to get a temporary conservatorship over the singer-songwriter, revealed that she may soon be released from the hospital during a court appearance. According to Watenbaker, since Mitchell will likely soon be released, it’s of considerable importance that Morris have emergency conservator powers, reported Rolling Stone.

Mitchell’s attorney, who was also at the hearing, agreed with Watenmaker’s argument for Morris being granted a conservatorship. With the conservatorship, Morris would not have control of Mitchell’s finances. The conservatorship would, however, put her in charge of Mitchell”s medical decisions once she leaves the hospital.

On March 31, Mitchell was rushed to the hospital after being found unresponsive at her home. Rumors began to circulate last month that Mitchell was still unresponsive and in a coma. A statement on the singer’s website has refuted the rumors, revealing that Mitchell has improved considerably. The statement did not reveal Mitchell’s medical condition or treatment.

“Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma. Joni is still in the hospital – but she comprehends, she’s alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected,” Mitchell’s site wrote in a statement. “The document obtained by a certain media outlet simply gives her longtime friend Leslie Morris the authority – in the absence of 24-hour doctor care – to make care decisions for Joni once she leaves the hospital. As we all know, Joni is a strong-willed woman and is nowhere near giving up the fight. Please continue to keep Joni in your thoughts.”
