Kim Kardashian West was cut out of a photo featuring her husband Kanye West and Jerusalem mayor Nir Barkat by a very Orthodox Israeli newspaper, Kikar HaShabbat.

Kim Kardashian Cut Out Of Photo By Orthodox Israeli Website

The newspaper published an article on West’s meeting with the Jerusalem mayor on Tuesday, and reportedly only mentioned Kardashian as “singer Kanye West’s wife” in the article. The original photo, shared by Barkat on Twitter and Facebook, clearly showed Kardashian, West and Barkat speaking together over a dinner table.

In one of the altered photo published by the Orthodox website, an alleged photo of the receipt from their dinner was super-imposed over Kardashian, covering her completely.

The publication also published a photo where Kardashian is simply blurred out, appearing as a pixilated blur.

The article criticized West and Barkat for eating at a non-kosher restaurant, saying the Mayor’s decision to join West and Kardashian at a non-kosher restaurant displayed “insensitivity to the majority of city-dwellers who keep kosher.”

After news of Kardashian’s erasure from the photo went viral, an editor of Kikar HaShabbat, Nissim Ben Haim, explained the newspaper’s decision. Haim claimed that Kardashian was a “pornographic symbol” that wouldn’t be suited for the pages of their Orthodox publication. Moreover, Haim noted, “Within the insular Ultra-Orthodox community, pictures of women often aren’t shown out of modesty.”

West and Kardashian only spent one night in Jerusalem, following their trip with Khloé Kardashian to Armenia. From Jerusalem, Kardashian continued her international travels in Paris, France, where she launched Kardashian Beauty Hair products.
