Interstellar Virtual Reality Experience Transports SXSW

The Interstellar event is currently taking place in Austin, and allows fans to get a close up look at TARS, the robot that helped Matthew McConaughey’s Cooper and Anne Hathaway’s Brand on their mission through space.

The robot, TARS, is prominently featured in the exhibit, but the real draw is the Interstellar virtual reality, courtesy of Oculus Rift. The Oculus Rift creates a virtual look at Endurance, the spaceship from the film. The virtual reality was actually developed as part of the film’s promotion, but had only a few events scattered through out the country in November.

The Interstellar Virtual Reality Experience also allows fans to experience the feeling of being in zero-gravity, and go on a journey through space that mirrors the one in the film:

“…See humanity’s best hope for survival as you glimpse the breathtaking wormhole that takes the film’s brave explorers beyond this galaxy to discover whether mankind has a future among the stars,” reads the official event description.

The Intersteller event will be open at SXSW through Tuesday, March 17.
