Lupita Nyong’o’s Pearl Oscar Dress Potentially Located
Lupita Nyong’o’s pearl-covered custom Calvin Klein gown that she wore to the 87th annual Academy Awards, has reportedly been recovered.
Lupita Nyong’o Dress Update
Nyong’o’s dress, which went missing Wednesday, has been found in an abandoned bathroom on the second floor of the London Hotel in West Hollywood, according to the L.A. Sheriff’s Department. The London Hotel, located off Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, is where the dress was originally stolen from and where Nyong’o was staying in the days following the Oscars.
The police reportedly got a tip from “a media representative,” who had received the information from an anonymous caller. When investigators went into the bathroom, they believe they found the dress, with a valued estimate of $150,000, inside a black garment bag under the bathroom counter.
Calvin Klein has released a statement to express their relief that the dress has likely been found.
“All of us at Calvin Klein are thrilled to know that the dress has potentially been located. This was an amazing collaboration between the brand and Lupita and the dress looked truly exquisite on her,” Francisco Costa, Women’s Creative Director of Calvin Klein Collection, said in a press release. “Once it’s returned to us, we will be able to have the dress restored and archived, as it now represents an important moment for the brand.”
Nyong’o wore the dress, which is covered with 6,000 Akoya pearls, to the Academy Awards, where she presented the Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role Oscar to J.K. Simmons. Since Nyong’o became a household name for her Oscar-winning turn in 12 Years a Slave last year, she has been known for her fashion almost as much as her acting.
