The tail of AirAsia Flight QZ8501 has been found in the Java Sea after several days of searching.

“We’ve found the tail that has been our main target today,” Fransiskus Bambang Soelistyo, head of Indonesia’s search and rescue operation, said during a news conference in Jakarta Wednesday, reported the Washington Post.

Soelistyo added that they are “still desperately trying” to find the recorders.

Tony Fernandes, the airline’s chief executive, added on Twitter that if they’ve uncovered the “right part of the tail section, then the black box should be there. We need to find all parts soon so we can find all our guests to ease the pain of our families. That still is our priority.”

Thus far, search teams have found forty bodies of those who’d been aboard the plane when it crashed. They’ve also located plane doors, life jackets, safety slides and other as of yet unidentified objects, reported the Sydney Morning Herald.

Air Asia Flight QZ8501 fell off the radar during its flight from Surabaya to Singapore on Dec. 28 with 162 people.

Despite a growing number of theories about the cause of the plane crash, officials have yet to confirm anything as the actual reason for the plane’s fall into the Java Sea.
