Amy Adams To Play Lois Lane In Zach Snyder's 'Superman' Reboot

Amy Adams (pictured) has snagged the iconic role of Superman’s love interest Lois Lane in Zach Snyder’s upcoming Superman: Man of Steel, The Hollywood Reporter reports. The 36-year-old three-time Oscar nominee, most recenty seen in David O. Russell's The Fighter, will take on a role previously portrayed by Kate Bosworth and Margot Kidder. She'll join The Tudors star Henry Cavill who will be donning the infamous red cape as Superman himself.

“Second only to Superman himself, the question of who will play Lois Lane is arguably what fans have been most curious about," Snyder said in a statement Sunday. "So we are excited to announce the casting of Amy Adams, one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today. Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful."

The 300 director also reaffirmed his decision to go with Cavill, as opposed to other contenders like True Blood's Joe Manganiello. "Really [Manganiello] was the only other guy I was thinking of, to be honest, other than Henry. But in the end, I think Henry just has this innocence too [in addition to the look and physicality required for the role], he has both, which is tricky," he told MTV News. "Superman needs the teeniest bit of that. Not to be overt, but you like it to be there ever so slightly. I mean, he grew up in Kansas, that's just true, so you need a little of that [innocence]." The 27-year-old certainly has some big shoes to fill. The film is currently scheduled for a December 2012 release. —EMILY EXTON
