VIDEO: Betty White's 90th Birthday Bash Attended By Mary Tyler Moore, Carol Burnett
Today marks the 90th birthday of actress and comedian Betty White, but it was last night that NBC aired a television special to celebrate the golden girl's milestone and thank her for being a friend.
Among the old school crowd that attended the bash, which was taped earlier this month, were Mary Tyler Moore, Carol Burnett, and Ed Asner, who reminisced about White's early career and their work with her on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Carol Burnett Show, The Tonight Show, Mama's Family, and, yes, Golden Girls. Newer friends in attendance included the cast of White's new show, Hot in Cleveland — Wendie Malick, Valerie Bertinelli, and Jane Leeves.
Parks and Recreation star Amy Poehler, who has long named White as a comedic role model and pioneer for women, explained her phrasing. "I call her a pioneer because 90 years ago she literally arrived to California on stage coach," she said. Other Saturday Night Live members and alumni were also present, calling to mind White's appearance on the late night sketch show in May 2010. Tina Fey said a few words, and "Weekend Update" anchor Seth Meyers delivered an entire news bit about White via video.
Perhaps the most priceless moment came when President Barack Obama's pre-taped birthday wishes played for White. "I can't believe you're 90 years old," he said. "Will you please produce a copy of your long-form birth certificate?"
