FX has released its first sneak peek of its horror drama series American Horror Story: Asylum for the upcoming second season, which will premiere in October. The eery trailer shows a nun dressed in white with her back turned to us, carrying two buckets to the edge of a forest. She then pours the contents of one of the buckets, presumably food, onto the ground, before walking into the woods. It’s vague — and scary as hell.

Creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, who are also responsible for the Fox hit Glee, have elected to take the series’ second season in a different direction with a new cast and new setting — specifically, a 1960s insane asylum. The mysterious character in the trailer may be Jessica Lange (pictured), 63, the only holdover from season 1 who is slated to play the lead, a nun named Sister Jude. But FX gives little away in the 19-second spot, and will apparently keep fans waiting until October to find out more.

The FX series was a hit among both critics and fans, garnering a Golden Globe nomination for Best Drama Series and tying with the TNT vehicle Falling Skies as the No. 1 new cable series on television among viewers aged 18-49, with over three million people in that demographic tuning in each week. — Hal Sundt
