Eddie Murphy, 51, may be partnering up with Shawn Ryan, the creator of The Shield, to bring his 1984 Beverly Hills Cop character, Axel Foley, to television.

Murphy and Ryan, who would be co-producers of the new Beverly Hills Cop show, will reportedly pitch the project early next week to broadcast networks, reports Vulture. The series, which has been described as "ah hour-long crime procedural with comedic elements, would follow the adventures of Axel Foley's son as a cop.

"What I'm trying to do with Beverly Hills Cop now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley's son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit," Murphy told Rolling Stone last year. "I'd do the pilot, show up here and there. None of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force this premise. If you have to force something, you shouldn't be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong."
