Dexter’s eighth season looks will be its final one as word continues to get out that the Showtime series is headed towards a close.

On Monday, CBS Corp. (owner of Showtime) president and CEO Les Moonves referred to the upcoming season of the serial killer drama as the final one during a conference call, reported Broadcast and Cable First. Moonves let slip the clue after a moderator asked him what new projects could be expected from Showtime next season. He replied, “We have Ray Donovan coming on, with Liev Schreiber, which comes on with Dexter‘s last season starting in June…”

When Dexter was first renewed for a 7th and 8th season, rumors immediately began circulating that they would be the show’s final two. Especially considering the less than stellar plotlines that were emerging for the series’ protagonist, it seemed to many as though it had run its course creatively. Although a record-breaking uptick in viewers cast doubt on whether or not the series would indeed end after the 8th season, Moonves remarks point to Showtime sticking to the course.

Dexter will begin airing its last 12 episodes on June 30. Showtime announced back in January that the season would kick off three months ahead of the original schedule.
