Rupert Murdoch, the wealthy News Corp chief executive, filed for divorce from wife Wendi Deng, reported CNBC on Thursday.

The divorce, confirmed to CNBC by a News Corp spokesperson, is the third for Murdoch. Although the spokesperson said that the relationship between the couple had been beyond repair over the last several months, no specific reason was given for the split.

Murdoch, 82, met Deng, 44, in 1997 while the Chinese-born Deng was working for News Corp. subsidiary Star TV in Hong Kong. In 1999, the pair exchanged vows aboard a yacht in New York Harbor. Together, the have two daughters, Grace and Chloe, born in 2001 and 2003, respectively.

Murdoch’s first wife was Patricia Booker, with whom he was married to from 1958 to 1967 and had one child, daughter Prudence. The same year he divorced from Booker he married Anna Maria Torv, a cadet journalist who worked for his newspaper The Daily Telegraph in Sydney. After over 30 years of marriage and raising three children, the pair divorced. A little more than two weeks after the divorce was finalized, he married Deng.

Deng, who received an MBA from Yale, continued to work with News Corps Chinese ventures after the wedding, including working as a producer for the 2011 film Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. Deng made headlines in 2011 during the phone hacking scandal that hit News Corp when she tried to strike a heckler who was harassing her husband.

Murdoch, ranked number 33 on Forbes 2013 billionaire’s list, is worth roughly $11.2 billion. It is speculated that Murdoch and Deng have a prenuptial agreement in place.
