Robert Griffin III, known as RGIII on the football field, married his longtime girlfriend Rebecca Liddicoat on Saturday at the Denver, Colo., Four Seasons Hotel.

The wedding, which took place in Liddicoat’s home state, was presided over by a bishop from Christian House of Prayer in Griffin’s hometown of Copperas Cove, Tex. Among the attendees at the 7-hour affair were the couple’s family members, Redskins staff and players, and the couple's fellow Baylor alumni. Boxing promoter, Rock Newman, who was also in attendance, was in awe of the diversity of the wedding.

“The best of America, that’s how I felt,” Newman told the Washington Post. “I just saw people, all ages, all ethnicities, all colors — white, black, Hispanic, Asian — really just enjoying each other. And I marveled at it. I just was filled with a sense of pride and optimism – optimism, man – because we live in fractured world. And that sense of any kind of division was not there.”

Griffin and Liddicoat met while Griffin was the quarterback at Baylor, where his on-field talents eventually earned him the Heisman Trophy. After dating for just a year, Griffin proposed to Liddicicoat following Baylor’s 2010 Homecoming game on their college campus. “Inside the candlelit building, Robert retrieved the ring from his father, then crooned a ballad he had penned for the occasion, accompanied by a teammate with a guitar,” according to Baylor’s alumni magazine. “Surrounded by their families, he took a knee and popped the question.”

The college sweethearts purchased their newlywed home – a $2.5 million 5-bedroom home in Loudoun County, Va. – in May. The location provides RGIII with a quick 20-minute commute to work at Redskins Park.
