Rachel Jeantel was offered a full scholarship to a college of her choice by radio host Tom Joyner. Jeantel, who spoke to her friend Trayvon Martin in the moments leading up to his shooting death, testified against George Zimmerman in his second-degree murder trial. Hearing her testimony and watching her recent interviews, Joyner was moved to help the 19-year-old further her education.

"Rachel, here's my offer to you,” began Joyner’s pledge. “If you want to graduate from high school and go to an HBCU [historically black college or university], even if it's not in Florida but especially Florida … If you want to do that, I want to help you do that," Joyner said during his radio show Tuesday. "I will help you get tutors to get you out of high school, tutors to help you pass the SAT, and I will give you a full-ride scholarship to any HBCU you'd like."

Jeantel was harshly criticized during her testimony for her weight, her attitude, her speech and her level of intelligence. Since Zimmerman’s acquittal, Jeantel has appeared on Piers Morgan Live to defend herself and the memory of her late friend, giving an interview that even Zimmerman’s attorney Mark O’Mara said was “engaging.”

On Tuesday, Joyner appeared on Piers Morgan Live and said, “We talked to her people today and it's going to take some work, first of all to get her a high school diploma, and get her ready for the SAT test, and then entered into college. But we are going to do that," he said.

“She deserves a chance," Joyner added.
