‘The Bachelorette’ Recap: Brooks Forester Breaks Up With Desiree Hartsock; Drew Kenney & Chris Siegfried Remain
The Bachelorette is in its Fantasy Suite Week, which means Desiree Hartsock gets to take her final three suitors – Drew Kenney, Chris Siegfried and Brooks Forester – on individual vacation dates that may or may not end up with a night spent in a private suite.
First up for a day and night with Des in Antigua is Drew. She brings the all-American family guy to a local festival on the island where they dance, do the limbo and shop. They’re incredibly affectionate all day, so it comes as no surprise that when their beach dinner gets rained out, Des offers Drew the chance to spend the night with her. Of course, he readily agrees.
Chris’ Antiguan excursion with Des began with a helicopter ride to a nearby Barbuda Island. They picnic on the beach and make out in the sand. When it comes time for dinner, Chris whips out his latest poem for the bachelorette. She replies with an offer of a night in the fantasy, which he too gladly accepts.
Instead of seguing into Brooks’ island date with Des, the show provided a flashback to the frontrunner’s time at home with his family from two weeks ago. He explains to his mother and grandmother that while he certainly likes Des, he’s having some doubts about how strong his feelings are for her. “I love my relationship with Desiree and I keep wondering why it is that I’m not at the stage yet to say to Desiree, ‘I love you.’” he tells them. “The idea of proposing to her at the end of this makes me really uncomfortable.”
Cutting to Des’s video diary segment, the Bachelorette star maintains that Brooks’ is the only guy who truly has her heart.
Prior to joining Des on the date, Brooks sits down with Chris Harrison. He confesses to the host that while he loves things about Des, he’s not in love with her. He further explains that he is ready to be in love and get married, but he doesn’t feel about Des the way he’d like to feel about the woman who’d become his wife. Meanwhile, Des returns to the screen gushing about Brooks and saying how excited she is to see him.
Brooks decides to nip it in the bud and talk to Des about his feelings (or lack thereof) as soon as they meet up. In typical Bachelor/ Bachelorette fashion, Brooks does a lot of rambling before he gets to the matter at hand. In fact, Desiree cuts him off before he gets there, saying, “I know what you are going to say.” He explains when they’re apart, he doesn’t miss her like she misses him, and that he loses the connection. She replies, “I love you… I do.”
Eventually, Des walks Brooks out and then returns to the edge of the dock and sobs. Brooks, before getting into the car to drive off, breaks down in tears as well. Des confesses that she won’t be able to love Drew or Chris as much as they love her, adding, “Honestly, for me, it’s over.”
The second part of the Bachelorette’s season finale will air Monday on ABC at 8/7c.
