Pharrell Williams recorded a video message for a nine-year-old boy from San Antonio named Damon, who’s been diagnosed with Osteosarcoma.
Pharrell Williams Sends Boy With Cancer A Message
Struggling with his bone cancer diagnosis, Damon and his family have found comfort in listening to Williams’ Oscar-nominated song “Happy” from the movie Despicable Me 2. Knowing the family’s love of the hit song, family friend Mark Landis, who works for L&L Broadcasting, tried to have Williams’ sign a picture for Damon, reported KHOU.
Instead of an autographed photo, Landis received a personal video message from Williams:
"The past you can't change, the future you can only contemplate, the present is malleable," said Williams, who performed “Happy” on the Oscar stage Sunday night. "That's why it's a gift because you can do whatever you want with it. So my suggestion to you is to take this moment right now and recognize this is the new you."
Williams added that Damon was welcome to come to any of his upcoming shows, and that he could give him a call anytime he wanted. He added, though, that what’s bigger than any of that is what he does with the new him in the present.
"I've seen a lot of things in my career," wrote Landis on his Facebook page. "This floored me."
