Bounce House Accident: Two Boys Recovering In Upstate NY After Bounce House Falls Two Stories
Two upstate New York boys are currently recovering from a bounce house accident that caused them to free-fall from two stories up in the air.
Bounce House Accident
Aged 5 and 6, the boys were playing in a bounce house set up outside their South Glens Falls, N.Y., apartment building, police told CNN. According to the police statement, a "sudden and strong burst of wind" tore through the area and lifted up the bounce house.
It’s estimated that the house was lifted 15 to 20 feet into the air before the two boys fell to the ground. The elder of the two was found in a nearby street, while the younger boy was located in the parking lot of the apartment building. Both children were airlifted to Albany Medical Center for treatment for their injuries. A third child, a 10-year-old girl, was injured in the accident but merely received treatment at the scene.
The boys’ conditions have not yet been reported.
Though police are investigating the incident, it is not believed that it occurred out of negligence on the part of the father, who set up the bounce house. "It was nothing that anyone did wrong," said neighbor Stephanie Hansen. "I saw the house being put up. I saw him putting all the stakes in. The parent, he just broke down. It was the saddest thing; he was blaming himself. He did everything right, it was just a freak thing.”
The manufacturer of the bounce house, Little Tikes, is determined to get to the bottom of the tragic accident and are looking into what could have gone wrong. "Providing safe and wholesome play experiences is of utmost importance to Little Tikes," the company said in a statement. "We are looking into what happened in South Glen Falls…. In the meantime, our thoughts and prayers are with the children and their families."
No charges have been filed in relation to the incident.
