Dr. John Jett is one of the scientists featured on CNN’s ground-breaking documentary film Blackfish, which delves into the plight of killer whales at SeaWorld. After SeaWorld trainer Dawn Brancheau was killed by orca Tilikum in 2010, federal officials began to investigate whether it is ever safe for trainers to work with killer whales in captivity. “Killer whales, we know from this 40 year experiment, do very poorly in captivity,” Jett told Uinterview exclusively. “Sometimes it’s safe for [trainers] to be in the water, sometimes it isn’t.”
