Michael Phelps To Retire After London Games

With 16 Olympic medals adorning his neck (14 of them gold), American swimmer Michael Phelps, 26, may add to his total at this year's London Games. Afterwards, however, Phelps is looking to rest easy on dry land. "I'm so sick of the water," he told ESPN in May. "Even when I go to the beach with my friends. They're like, 'Why won't you get in?' And I'm like, 'Do you have any IDEA how much of my life I've spent in the water?'"

While Phelps' mom, Debbie Phelps, hopes her son will go on to compete at the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro, Phelps and coach Bob Bowman have sung a different tune. "I think he'll be done competitively after London," Bowman said.

In swimming, at least. Phelps has his eye on playing golf. "I want to go to the World Cup. I want to go to the Masters," he said. "I want to go ... anywhere. Really, if you invite me somewhere after this, I'll go."

Now there's an idea.
