Zac Efron Suffers Broken Jaw; Has Jaw Wired Shut

Zac Efron broke his jaw after slipping and falling in a puddle of water outside his L.A. home and his jaw has been wired shut to heal.

Efron, 26, broke his jaw on Sunday and also suffered a bad cut on his face that needed stitches. He has yet to release a statement about the incident, but he has scheduled promotional appearances for his upcoming film That Awkward Moment, which is set for a Jan. 31 release. Healing from a broken jaw can often require having a jaw wired shut for as long as two months, but the release date has not been pushed back as of yet.

That Awkward Moment co-star Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station) assured the public that Efron was going to be okay while attending the GQ Man of the Year event.

“He’s good. He’s going to be okay,” Jordan told E! News.

Jordan, one of the magazine’s honorees, said he had not seen Efron since, but has been in touch with the injured heartthrob. Jordan added that he’s sure Efron will recover well, saying, “He’s tough.”

Earlier this year Efron did a stint in rehab for substance abuse, and some reports speculate that there may be more to this freak accident than meets the eye. When TMZ reported the news, they expressed their suspicions:

“Maybe it’s true, but it’s a very weird story… slipping and breaking your jaw in a puddle of water.
“We’re told Zac – who has been a hard partier for years – has been struggling to stay clean,” the report reads.
