Will Smith took over for his son, Jaden Smith, when a New York Magazine interviewer attempted to inquire about the 14-year-old’s rumored romance with Kylie Jenner – the Kardashian sisters' half-sister.

When Jaden began to reply to reporter, saying, “I’m trying to understand,” Will advised his son, “Don’t.” Taking on a more of parental role than that of costar, Will told the reporter, “You know, he’s never had to deal with those kinds of questions."

The interviewer began to reword the question, but Will mocked him before he could finish asking it. Then he said, “For our family, the entire structure of our life, our home, our business relationships—the entire purpose is for everyone to be able to create in a way that makes them happy. Fame is almost an inconsequential by-product of what we’re really trying to accomplish."

“We are trying to put great things into the world, we’re trying to have fun, and we’re trying to become the greatest versions of ourselves in the process of doing things we love,” he added. “So the idea of fame or exploitation or orchestrating the media is sometimes even less than desirable for us.”

Although the Kardashians and the Smiths are known to be friendly with one another, Will is clearly not interested in having his family being compared to the reality TV stars. Their current fame is mostly owed to Kim Kardashian’s leaked sex tape with ex-boyfriend Ray J.

Smith, one of the most bankable actors in Hollywood, was promoting his new movie After Earth, in which Jaden costars. They previously joined forces for The Pursuit of Happiness when Jaden was just 7-years-old.
