Dyer did not go the traditional route regarding his leukemia treatment. He claimed to have treated his disease with positive thinking, exercise and ‘psychic surgery’ which was performed by a Brazilian medium, João Teixeira de Faria, otherwise known as “John of God.” Dyer spoke about his treatment with Oprah Winfrey on Super Soul Sunday in 2012. He and Oprah were friends, and he was often a guest on her show.
It was always a pleasure to talk to @DrWayneWDyer about life’s big questions. He always had big answers. RIP Wayne. You brought the Light.

Wayne Walter Dyer grew up an orphan. Dyer was a psychotherapist and a professor for many years. Later, he began to build his self-help empire, striving to help others become more positive-thinking, and motivating them to reach their full potentials. He inspired many people over the years, writing over 30 self-help books including, The Power of Intention and Stop the Excuses! How to Change Lifelong Thoughts.
Dyer had eight children and was separated from his third wife.
