Jonathan “War Machine” Koppenhaver, who is in jail after allegedly assaulting his ex Christy Mack, reportedly tried to kill himself in his jail cell earlier this week.

War Machine Attempts Suicide

Koppenhaver, 32, attempted to hang himself in his jail cell at the Clark Country Detention Center in Las Vegas Tuesday Night, according to E! News. The MMA fighter was found in the midst of the attempt to take his own life at around 9:30 p.m. A suicide note was found within the cell.

"A corrections officer was conducting routine walk-throughs inside the Clark County Detention Center when he noticed inmate Jonathan Koppenhaver in a seated position on the floor with his feet resting on the bunk,” according to a release from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. “The officer also noticed what appeared to be a torn piece of linen around his neck that was tied to the leg of his bunk."

After the officer attempted to call out to Koppenhaver and noted that he was unresponsive, he opened the cell and “quickly observed that Koppenhaver was struggling to breathe and proceeded to cut the ligature from Koppenhaver's neck. Additional officers arrived to assist and continued to check Koppenhaver for response. Koppenhaver's breathing became less strained and he started to respond to them by attempting to speak."

Koppenhaver was soon stabilized and transferred to medical isolation, where he is now being kept on suicide watch.

Koppenhaver was arrested on Aug. 15 in Simi Valley, Calif., and charged with several counts of battery, assault with a deadly weapon and other crimes for his alleged attack on Mack, an adult entertainer. Following the incident, Mack released a detailed account of the attack that left her near death with her face bruised and swollen.
