VIDEO: Jennifer Hudson Defends Winnie Mandela
Production of the upcoming Winnie Mandela biopic hasn't started yet and already the film is stirring up controversy. Winnie, the controversial ex-wife of South African president Nelson Mandela, threatened to sue the film's producers if she wasn't granted the right to approve the film's script. Still, producers are saying that's not going to happen.
The movie, starring Terrence Howard as Nelson and Jennifer Hudson as the former first lady, was officially announced during the Cannes Festival Sunday. In a CNN interview, the Academy Award-winning actress came to Winnie Mandela's defense, saying the political icon is worried "with good reason." Hudson also said she respects the former first lady and that she doesn't think she will be disappointed with how her story is told. Winnie will begin filming in South Africa later this month. –KRIS ALCANTARA
