Valerie Harper, who was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday after losing consciousness backstage of musical Nice Work If You Can Get It, is reportedly in a coma.

Valerie Harper In A Coma

Harper, 75, fell ill before a showing of Nice Work If You Can Get It at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine. The Mary Tyler Moore actress, who was been battling brain cancer, was then rushed to nearby York hospital. It was reported late Thursday that Harper had been released from the hospital, but insiders are saying that she was actually transferred to another, larger hospital.

On Thursday night, Harper was taken via med-vac to a hospital outside of Maine, sources told Entertainment Tonight. It is hoped that she will get the treatment she needs to recover from Wednesday’s incident.

Nice Work If You Can Get It’s artistic director Bradford T. Kenney said in a statement earlier this week, “Valerie Harper was taken to a local hospital as a precaution before her July 29 evening performance of Nice Work If You Can Get It, at the Ogunquit Playhouse, after reporting that she was not feeling well.”

“She is resting comfortably and will remain in the hospital for observation for the time being,” Kenney added. “The audiences and all of us here at the Playhouse are greatly enjoying our time with Valerie here in Ogunquit, and we are encouraged that she is feeling better.”

Despite the director’s optimism, an art tech admitted that the actress had been unwell all week. “It doesn’t look good,” another insider told ET.

Harper publicly announced that she had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in 2013. At the time, doctors believed that Harper only had months to live. Far exceeding expectations, Harper has continued to survive the battle. Earlier this year, reports claimed that Harper had been cured, but the actress clarified that the good news was that the cancer had not spread to other areas of her body.
