Usher Wins Child Custody Battle Against Ex-Wife Tameka Foster
Usher’s ex-wife Tameka Foster attempted and failed to get temporary custody of their two children – Usher Raymond V, 5, and Naviyd Ely Raymond, 4 – after the elder brother nearly drowned in the R&B singer’s pool last week.
Foster filed for custody of the children just one day following the traumatic accident at an Atlanta court. During the hearing, both Usher and Foster took to the stand to make their respective cases – Usher to retain custody, and Foster to assume custody. After both parties were heard, Fulton County Superior Court judge John Goger dismissed Foster’s request for temporary primary custody and decision-making authority, reported MSN.
Goger found that the incident had not shown any negligence on Usher’s part, and therefore did not warrant a change in custody. However, he did request that Usher keep Foster informed about their children’s whereabouts and who is looking after them when he’s not with them. Following the ruling, Usher gave his ex a long hug.
On Aug. 4, Usher Raymond V was trying to retrieve a toy that had sunk to the bottom of his father’s pool when his arm got stuck in the drain. His aunt, Rena Oden, was supervising him at the time, but could not free him. Quickly, she got the attention of two contractors who had been working inside the house to rescue to the 5-year-old. While she dialed 911, they were able to successfully perform CPR.
By the time Usher arrived home, Usher Raymond V was conscious and breathing. He travelled with his eldest son in the ambulance to the hospital, where Foster later joined him.
Usher and Foster divorced in 2009 after two years of marriage.
