U.S. Olympian Danell Leyva Wants To Join Broadway's 'Spider-Man'
U.S. Olympic gymnast Danell Leyva, 20, who won the bronze medal for the United States last month and celebrated afterward by passing through New York City and hanging out backstage with Reeve Carney, 29, and the cast of Broadway's Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, might be in talks to join the cast of the show.
Leyva, who has referred in the past to the superhero character of Spider-Man as his "role model," allegedly expressed interest in becoming one of the backup Spider-Men of the highly physical show, which famously features music written by Bono and The Edge of U2. "He has designs on one of the nine Spidey roles who do the bulk of the swinging around the theater," a production source told the New York Post's Page Six.
"The ladies of Spider-Man are drooling at the possibility," the source said and, reportedly, even the producers "are excited about the idea of Danell joining the show."
