Mike Tyson, the boxing legend who achieved infamy for biting off an opponent’s ear, has endorsed the embattled Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, who is currently seeking reelection.

Mike Tyson Endorses Rob Ford

Ford believes he deserves a second chance. He believes that despite his personal failings, he also did the job he was elected to do well. A longtime admirer of Tyson’s prowess in the ring, Ford agreed to meet with Tyson, who was in town for his one-man show. In the end, Ford received an endorsement from the athlete, believing that his story fits into his own larger narrative that everyone makes mistakes.

“He’s a human being,” Tyson, who says Ford is the best mayor Toronto’s ever had, told reporters, according to the Toronto Star. “We have no idea what you do behind closed doors, what your habits are.”

Tyson also claimed that Ford had “overcome adversity” and reiterated “We all make mistakes.” Incidentally, among Tyson’s mistakes are a 1992 rape conviction, a 1998 assault conviction, cocaine possession and, allegedly, domestic violence against his ex-wife Robin Givens.

In light of Tyson’s checkered history, the boxer was asked whether or not his past troubles could make his endorsement of Ford backfire on the candidate during an interview on CP24. After initially calling the moderator “negative,” Tyson lost his temper, saying, “You’re really a piece of s–t. F–k you,” reported TMZ Sports.

What does Ford think of Tyson? He told reporters, “We’re cut from the same cloth. There’s no nonsense. I respect him.”
