Thor 2: The Dark World's first official full-length trailer made its way online yesterday, revealing new plot details, including an unexpected companion for the title hero. When Thor and Jane Foster return to his home world of Asgard, the couple discovers that a new enemy is in their midst. As the battle unfolds, their relationship will be tested.

The film, a part of the Thor and Loki Marvel franchise, picks up where director Joss Whedon's The Avengers left off. Chris Hemsworth returns as the title character and crown prince of Asgard and Natalie Portman reprises the role of his love interest, Jane Foster. Also returning are Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Ray Stevenson, Jaime Alexander, Stellan Skargard, Idris Elba and Kat Dennings. Chrisptopher Exccleston will be joining the cast as arch-villian Malekith the Accursed.

According to the studio, the upcoming installment will follow Thor as he "battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself…Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.”

Thor 2: The Dark World, directed by Alan Taylor, is set to hit theaters on Nov. 8, 2013.
