The Captain & Tennille, the married pop duo also known as Daryl Dragon, 71, and Antoinette ‘Toni’ Tennille, 73, filed for divorce on Jan. 16 after 39 years of marriage.

Toni Tennille Files For Divorce

The couple met in 1972 when they both played keyboard for The Beach Boys. They eventually released their own album in 1974 as The Captain & Tenille and married one year later. Together they sold over 23 million albums and headlined The Captain and Tennille Show, a variety television show that aired for one year. The couple’s popularity dwindled in the 80s, but the pair continued to perform their old hits together, such as “Love Will Keep Us Together.”

Now, Tenille has filed for divorce in an Arizona court. According to the documents, the marriage is “irretrievably broken," though not much else is known as to why the couple is ending their marriage. In fact, Dragon himself seems oblivious as to the reasons behind the divorce.

“I don’t know why she filed. I gotta figure it out for myself first,” Dragon told TMZ.

The Captain's Health Problems

The duo is reportedly still living in the same house and some reports suggest that the divorce does not have anything to do with the state of their marriage at all. TMZ suggests that a special mention of health insurance in the divorce filings could be evidence that Tenille is filing for divorce in the hopes that Dragon will be able to get better health insurance. However, no other evidence backs up this theory.

In 2009, Tenille revealed that her husband was suffering from a condition similar to Parkinsons, but not much else is known of the Captain’s health.
