The Big Bang Theory returns Sept. 26 for Season 7, and producers have confirmed that the new season will pick up three to four months after the finale. The Big Bang Theory will return with two back-to-back episodes titled “The Hofstadter Insufficiency” and “The Deception Verification.”

The season 6 finale ended with Leonard (Johnny Galecki) sailing away on a work trip, leaving girlfriend Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and roommate Sheldon (Jim Parsons) alone.

During the time jump, Penny and Sheldon have gotten closer. Producers teased audiences with a photo from the season premiere, which shows Penny forcing Sheldon into a rare display of affection.

“Sheldon and Penny share intimate secrets while Leonard is away at sea, later, Sheldon’s feelings are crushed when Leonard returns. Meanwhile, Raj (Kunal Nayyar) gets consoled about his ex-girlfriend and Wolowitz’ (Simon Helberg) relationship with his mother causes an unusual threat to his masculinity. Regina King returns as Mrs. Davis, the University’s Director of Employee Relations, and Kevin Sussman returns as Stuart, the comic book store owner,” reads the official episode description.

Executive producer Steven Molaro promised fans more Penny-Sheldon interaction in the premiere, saying, “They have some really sweet scenes together.”

The Big Bang Theory co-star Melissa Rauch, who plays Bernadette on the series, tweeted that the cast and crew filmed the Season 7 premiere Aug. 21.

Molaro, Galecki and Rauch also dished about the comedy hit’s upcoming season during their trip to Comic Con in July.

“Early on, we’ll see Bernadette and Amy [Mayim Bialik] spend some time alone without Penny and take a little trip together. Kooth [Kunal Nayyar] can speak to women without alcohol now, so we’re poking at that,” teased Molaro in an interview with The Huffington Post.

As for potential season 7 guest stars, Bob Newhart is set to return as Professor Proton for at least two episodes. Newhart received an Emmy nomination for his guest appearance on The Big Bang Theory – one of the eight nominations the show received this year.

And Molaro gave hope to fans who might want to see Spock himself, Zachary Quinto, appear on the geeky show.

“Zachary Quinto has said to us that he’d be very interested in being on the show – we would love to have him. There’s nothing set in place yet, but we’re hopeful that that can happen,” said Molaro when asked about guest stars for Season 7.

The Big Bang Theory returns Thursday Sept 26 at 8 P.M. on CBS.
