Taylor Swift Talks New Album, Debuts Single, 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together'

Taylor Swift, 22, may seem happy as a clam after recently cozying up to Conor Kennedy, 18, (yes, of the Kennedys; he's the oldest son of Robert Kennedy, Jr. and the recently deceased Mary Richardson Kennedy), to whom Swift suddenly seems attached at the hip, but that doesn't automatically make up for the string of lost loves Swift has littering her recent past, including Joe Jonas, Taylor Lautner, John Mayer and Jake Gyllenhaal, and she's not going to let anyone forget it.

Swift announced the October 22 release date of her fourth studio album, entitled Red, on a Monday podcast, and then proceeded to play the first single, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," from the album. Swift explained the origins behind the confessional song. "This guy walks in who is a friend of my ex's and starts talking about how he's heard we're going to get back together," Swift revealed on Good Morning America. After which, "I start telling [my cowriters] the story: break up, get back together, break up, get back together — just, ugh, the worst! ... And I picked up the guitar and [songwriting partner Max Martin] said, 'This is what we're writing.'"

It's no secret that Swift uses her inner romantic and emotional life as material for her music. "There's just been this earth-shattering, not recent, but absolute crash-and-burn heartbreak and that will turn out to be what the next album is about," Swift told Vogue earlier this year. "The only way that I can feel better about myself — pull myself out of that awful pain of losing someone — is writing songs about it to get some sort of clarity."
