Viewers finally got a little reward for their patience in the form of a long-awaited wedding between Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) and Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens) on Sunday night, when Downton Abbey finally returned to Britain's ITV1 after a long hiatus that's still ongoing in the U.S. On this side of the pond we have to wait until January 2013 to delight in all the Downton Abbey series three delights on PBS, but we can still get our fill of spoilers online to whet our appetites.

While Mary and Matthew can rest easy in their avowed love, despite the fact that the duo's wedding almost got called off last minute, there are other dangers in store at Downton — like the very practical problem of the money running out.

Enter Shirley MacLaine, 78, in her Downton debut, as Lady Cora's (Elizabeth McGovern) wealthy American mother, Martha Levinson — a character who may or may not assist Downton in its financial troubles, but who will be sure to get under the skin of Maggie Smith's Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham, every step of the way, regardless.

In other majorly sensitive Downton spoilers, Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael) approached Sir Anthony Strallan (Robert Bathurst) to discuss her intentions for the both of them, and Lady Sybill (Jessica Brown Findlay) returned with hubby Tom (Allen Leech) to try to re-adjust to life at Downton.
