South Park Renewed For Three More Seasons
After 15 seasons on the air, the hugely popular, crudely drawn cartoon South Park, created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone (pictured), has been renewed by parent network Comedy Central for another three seasons.
"The collective genius of Matt and Trey knows no bounds," said Comedy Central president Michele Ganles in a statement. "Week after week and season after season they continue to surprise and delight South Park fans, and that includes all of us here at Comedy Central. We're thrilled that the adventures of Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman will continue through 2016."
Some feared that the dynamic duo were ready to quit, following the popular and critical success of their Tony Award-winning Broadway musical The Book of Mormon. Not so, say Parker and Stone. "Comedy Central has been our home for 15 years and we love working there," they said in a joint statement. "South Park is a blast and we can't wait to make more." Stone and Parker, who continue to be very hands-on with the writing and production of the series, try to be as up-to-date as possible, producing each episode in a week, sometimes working almost until airtime.
The deal will bring the hit show up to the 20-season mark, making it the longest-running animated series on cable. You can catch South Park on Comedy Central at 10:00 p.m. on Wednesdays.
