'Sons Of Anarchy' RECAP: Chaos Rules After A Kidnapping And Mistaken Identity
The latest episode of FX motorcycle drama Sons of Anarchy, “To Thine Own Self," continued to build like a can of baked beans ready to burst, further setting up what should be an epic — and tragic — finale in which the fate of nearly every character will be up in the air.
Tara (Maggie Siff) learned she could face serious legal consequences after providing Otto (Kurt Sutter) with the crucifix that he used it to kill a nurse in last week's episode, aptly titled "Crucifixed." For these reasons, and plenty of others, Tara really wanted to just get the heck out of dodge, move to Providence to take a job in pediatrics and resume her medical career. Tara met with Unser (Dayton Callie), who is suffering mightily from cancer, to vent her concerns.
Jax (Charlie Hunnam), still in the process of trying to bring down Clay (Ron Perlman), was kidnapped by Romeo (Danny Trejo) and Luis (Benito Martinez) of the Mexican cartel, but they later let him go. But when Nero (Jimmy Smits) learned of Jax’s kidnapping, he mistakenly thought it was his own old gang that was to blame, and proceeded to bust in on them and start shooting, even killing some of the members. Needless to say, he looked really stupid when it turned out not to be them.
Clay tried to make a bargain with Jax that would have still allowed him to live, provided he work with the Mexican cartel. When Jax turned Clay down, it didn't take Clay too long to figure out that Jax didn't have the best of intentions for him, and that he was in as much danger as ever. Send Bobby (Mark Boone Junior) to the rescue, who visited Clay at the end of the episode and said he would protect him, which will only further complicate matters with Jax as the season comes to a close.
On a side note, Lee Toric (Donal Logue) went to see the doomed Otto in prison and offered a foreboding message that things will not end well for him, either. Logue is set to remain on the series for a full three episode arc this season.
Only two episodes remain in this tense fifth season, and die-hard fans must be asking themselves, who’s going to make it out alive? Sons of Anarchy airs on FX at 10 p.m. EST —Hal Sundt
