Shannen Doherty has confirmed that she is battling breast cancer. “Yes, I have breast cancer, and I am currently undergoing treatment,” the Beverly Hills 90210 star told People Magazine on Wednesday.

The news came out after TMZ reported that Doherty had filed a lawsuit against her former business manager, Tanner Mainstain, accusing her of not paying insurance premiums, causing coverage for the actress to lapse.

The former Charmed star “was also informed that, had she been insured and able to visit her doctor, the cancer could potentially have been stopped, thus obviating the need for future treatment (including mastectomy and chemotherapy) that [Doherty] will likely have to suffer through now.”

Mainstain denies Doherty’s allegations. One of his representatives issued this response to People: “Tanner Mainstain is saddened to learn that Ms. Doherty is suffering from cancer and wishes her a full recovery. However, the claim that Tanner Mainstain caused her to be uninsured, prevented her from seeking medical care, or somehow contributed to her cancer is patently false. Tanner Mainstain will aggressively defend all of Ms. Doherty’s claims in court.”

Doherty’s husband, photographer Kurt Iswarienko, is also suing the firm, reports USA Today. He’s accusing them of mismanaging the couple’s money and leading to other financial troubles, including tax audits and liens.

In spite of Doherty’s legal drama, she is doing everything she can to stay positive through this difficult time. “I am continuing to eat right, exercise and stay very positive about my life,” the star told People. “I am thankful to my family, friends and doctors for their support and, of course, my fans who have stood by me.”
