Sawyer Gets Anchor Chair
Diane Sawyer, 63, will inherit the ABC News anchor chair in January, it was announced Wednesday, after Charles Gibson, 66, decided to retire. "It has not been an easy decision to make," Gibson said in an e-mail to his staff. "This has been my professional home for almost 35 years. And I love this news department, and all who work in it, to the depths of my soul." For the first time ever, two of the three major nightly news anchors will be women. (Photo: WENN)
