Ryan Lochte 'Winging It' In New Television Cameos

U.S. Olympic swimmer and five-time gold medalist Ryan Lochte, 28, may have his eye on the small screen, with upcoming guest appearances on the CW's 90210 and NBC's 30 Rock, as well as a gig with E! News as a Fashion Week guest correspondent, but that doesn't mean that he was born for a job in front of a camera.

And now there are reportedly people at E! suggesting that Lochte, whose Olympic interviews left something to be desired, ought to stick to swimming. "E! is regretting the decision. Even after media training, he's still not sharp," an insider said, though another E! rep later called the claims "inaccurate," reports the New York Post's Page Six.

"Lochte is going a great job," the second rep responded. "It would be unreasonable to expect him to suddenly morph into a seasoned journalist, just as it would be unreasonable to think a journalist could win a gold medal, but it doesn't mean they can't take a dip in the pool!"

Lochte's rep also chimed in on the rumors. "I believe under the circumstances he has done a great job. Ryan does not purport to be the best speaker or the best interviewer. But each time he gets more experience and becomes more at ease."

As far as Lochte, who has expressed interest in fashion design before, is concerned, he's just having fun. "I'm just going to wing it," he told the paper about learning lines for his 30 Rock appearance. "Whatever happens, happens."
