Ryan Gosling dyed his hair a bright shade of blond for The Place Beyond the Pines, a film in which he plays a pro motorcyclist turned thief.

The Place Beyond the Pines, helmed by Gosling’s Blue Valentine director, Derek Cianfrance, debuted at the Toronto Film Festival last year. In the movie, Gosling’s character Luke commits a crime in order to support his child by his former girlfriend (Eva Mendes). Bradley Cooper plays rookie cop Avery, who gets caught up in a danger-filled drama while in pursuit of Luke. Ray Liotta, Rose Byrne, Dane DeHanan, Bruce Greenwood and Ben Mendelsohn also star in the film.

Gosling recently made statements that alluded to his need to take a break from acting for a while. The former Mickey Mouse Club member shot to leading man status after starring in The Notebook in 2004, and has been in high-demand ever since. Just in the last eight years, Gosling has been in eight movies.

Although Gosling has a hiatus in mind, Hollywood might be calling on the 30-year-old actor to take on the role of Oscar Pistorius – the “Blade Runner” accused of murdering girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp this past Valentine’s Day. Charlize Theron is rumored to be in consideration for the role of Steenkamp, a source told The Sun.

The Place Beyond the Pines will premiere in select theaters on Friday, March 29.
