President Obama 'Impressed' By Jeremy Lin
It's not every day that a sports star gets the praise of a United States President, but — then again — it's not every day that a sports star rises to fame quite as quickly as Jeremy Lin, the point guard for the New York Knicks, did after his victory shot on Tuesday night.
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney chimed in about none other but President Barack Obama's reaction to Lin. "As you know, the President is an avid sports fan, and a particularly avid basketball fan, and we were speaking about Jeremy Lin," Carney said, reports Huffington Post. "It's just a great story, and the President was saying as much this morning. It's obviously terrific for the New York Knicks, but it's the kind of sports story that transcends the sport itself."
But there's more. "Yes, he's very impressed and fully up to speed," Carney continued. "I know he's watched Lin play already and he's seen the highlights from last night's game." To top it off, both the President and Lin have Harvard ties — Lin got his undergraduate degree from Harvard University (where he was overlooked by NBA scouts), and Obama graduated from Harvard Law School.
After hearing the President's praise, Lin was overcome. "I'm very, very honored and very humbled," he said, according to USA Today. "I mean, wow, the President. Nothing better than that."
